  • Battle Report: Sundown Malaysia 2014

After a long pampering days , here is my Battle Report: Sundown Malaysia 2014. My first hand experience travelling via flight out from Klang Valley to partake a running event.

    Pre-carbo loading

A day before of my trip, had a late resting hours due to mamak session after cell gathering. Woke up the following day right on the daily working clock (8am)  maybe due to my excitement for a far away running event even though my flight was at 2pm.

After preparing my gears prior to my trip, (I’ve kinda missed adding my GPS NIKE+ watch in the picture) . My uncle hitched me a ride to KLIA2. First impression on the airport was huge and spacious! even tho some of my friend over exaggerated that a requirement of walking distance from check-in counter to departure gate would take at least 40 mins. I’ve manage to snag a notice board showing different figures.

After a little exploring in KLIA2 I was kinda shocked when they were selling mineral bottle at the price of RM6.50!!!! wow crazy.. lucky there is water fountain for you to drink from. QUICK TIPS: bring empty drinking bottles via hand carry, so you could refill it up at the boarding gate from the free water fountain.

Best part of the flight was getting a random seat, which was actually a hot seat near the middle (which is actually emergency exit door) doesn’t matter. Due to its taboo sitting location, non of the other passengers sat the same row as me nor the row behind mine. So what did I do during the entire flight after took off?

After touch down, I tried to get a cab for a 10KM ride to my Motel, but the crazy taxi driver asked for RM40. I straight exited the cab and on the nick of time , my friend manage to drop by the Senai airport and offered me a ride. (thanks Haja!)

Motel was situated nearby a quite recent AEON shopping mall, where I manage to have my final carbo-loading session and head back for a quick shower and geared up myself for the run.

Apparently the event location was kinda new for my fellow Johorian friend as well and it was somesorta like a Putrajaya for Johor which consist of empty under develop lands. Manage to take a stroll at the new mall connecting towards LegoLand. So near yet so far, standing at the entrance of Legoland but unable to enter. (probably somewhere this year I shall adventure inside).

After taking the shutter bus to the race venue, we manage to explore a little of the stadium area, and i must say it is very quite a modern age structure stadium with awesome indoor court.

As the sunsets, the race starts where my friend and I started at the same pace, however half way through the first 1km where my friend said “see you at the Finish line”  That’s where we part ways . for 2 and a half hours the route was pretty dull except a nice pass through via some Istana .

Slow escalated route in addition didn’t really bothered me however I pancit around the 14km on the last water station where i manage to grab a huge bottle of Revive isotonic drink which totally spoiled my pacing. Overall a good run !! manage to finish it in 2hours 35 mins.

My new running shoe (Adios Boost) pretty much stayed loyal to my feet without any heating, or mushy feeling throughout the run. Kinda loving it.!!

Without sleeping after the event checked out at 4am from the motel and off to Senai Airport . After touching down back to KLIA2 I kinda crashed flat out on my bed once return home.  guess its pretty worth the trip over to obtain a finisher Tee and an awesome medal.

Totally forgotten about another famous run which I’ve registered. This would considered be my 3rd year of joining BSN night run. I was pretty impressed with the organizing team and management of the whole run.

Great atmosphere before, during and after the run makes a great time to enjoy the event as a whole, from school muscial bands, fire breathing-dancers, to some quirky superhero cosplayers, and not to forget cheerful crowds along the way of the route.

On the first event , they had bubble machine during crossing the Putrajaya mini bridge, sadly it was not there on the 2nd year however being replaced by a cabaret woman dancing with a DJ grooving some tunes on a mini DJ-console. I really hope they would bring back the bubble machine, to have that  dreamy feeling towards the finish line.

As for the goodies this year, all running mileage will be getting medals!! Yup thats right 5k, 10k, 21k and 42k will all be getting medals! Exclusive to 21k and 42k on the other hand would be getting finisher Tee and a sweet looking baseball cap

  • Blended

Blended is about a couple after a disastrous blind date, single parents Lauren and Jim agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week .

Blended is a comedy movie between stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymoore. After getting a bad taste from Seth McFarlane’s Movie, I had to go to get some good laugh.

At least the show was pretty decent with silly laughs which are bearable. Even though Adam Sandler’s acting remain lazy, sloppy through out his recent films, Drew Barrymoore was able to save this movie from going terribad. Also not to forget the cameo done by Terry Crews which never seems to fail in giving me a few giggles here and there, during his intermission through out the movie.

Story line was pretty direct and straightforward where two single parents met up coincidentally at their Africa trip which made them get a closer bonding which eventually lead to a happy ending. However its not about the results but the journey of them getting together with all of the silly comedic scene and what not. As you all can know that there is subtle advertising in this movie like in his previous movies production.

Well at least towards the end of the movie , it tries to add some moral values about putting higher priority on your children.

Not to be getting a wrong idea, this movie is quite good to watch just for laughs. Overall 7/10 if you would like some comedic movie for this month, probably this might be one of the movie to watch on the big screens. But its an easy miss anyway..

  • A million ways to die in the west

Seth MacFarlane directs, produces, co-writes and plays the role of the cowardly sheep farmer Albert in A Million Ways to Die in the West. After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love.

Okay the movie left a bad after taste when walking out of the cinema . Well at least a final cameo of django with “everyone dies in the fair”

Story kicks off a sheep herder that had a mentality of our modern society. Well since is Seth mcfarlane’s movie like from his previous movie ted, this movie has no future introduction of nitty gritty dirty dirty jokes. At least for the first 30 minutes or so, where it suddenly toned down drastically to follow up with the story plot.

Props, amazing scenery and great Costume were perfectly done in this movie with vintage type music score which set a nice setting towards it. All clearly executed.

However it fails in the story department . Even with good casting didn’t manage to save the movie. Jokes are pretty bland, and straight up vulgar. Many scene, we pretty much censored off due to Malaysia censored board …

Overall its a good dumb laugh and quite able to say one of Seth ‘s worst flim which should be straight push on home videos instead.

The only liking of the shows was cameos from back to the future 3 and django … I kinda pitty the new generation that watched that particular scene on bttf3 since they got no idea what was the inside joke it was ….

A slapstick dirty joke movie which tries to be funny 4.5/10

  • How to train your dragon 2: Review

How to train your dragon 2: Review – Dream Works Animation returns to the world of dragons and Vikings in this sequel to their successful 2010 outing How to Train Your Dragon. The original film followed the exploits of a Viking chief’s son, who must capture a dragon in order to mark his passage into manhood and prove his worthiness to the tribe.

Firstly would like to thank Nuffnang for providing me a few days earlier screening for this long awaited sequel of How to train your dragon 4 years ago. Manage to get toothless mask and not too shabby cupcakes!

Over hyped, and much anticipation to my liking on the first predecessor , Dream Works did not disappoint in any aspect of the story line, CGI, music score and humorous fun times. The story takes place 5 years later where both viking and dragons leave in peace and harmony… well until Hiccups stumbled across some Dragon trappers which a while master plan of capturing dragons and build an army out of them to rule over humanity.

Returning cast from the first movie was never missed, stars the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig with the addition of Kit Harington, Cate Blanchett and Djimon Hounsou.

Well sadly for my humble opinion, the progress of the story line died down quite subtlety after a happy bonding family time that went totally wrong. This was quite the first time Dream Works manage to do something unspeakable like in the first movie where Hiccups lost his leg. However the irony of a full total recovery within a few mins didn’t not made a full impact of the shocking moment. I wished the director could add a more touching feeling towards the sadden incident. Actually two scene which supposed to made an total shocker for the viewers didn’t quite convey to me which actual sad emotional connection.

Aside from the two major flaw of the movie, overall it was a pretty enjoyable ride where you feel immerse on riding a dragon. Touching times where son meets mom; mom meets dad, and also not to forget the humorous part where Ruffnut helplessly falls for a hunk due to her teenage female hormones.

With a good propaganda motives on bestowing peace to mankind and not making a tool out of peaceful things, I must say its a pretty well put moral story values. However trying to fit myself in kids age roughly around ages of  7-12 I’m sure they might get lost in the plot lines and dramas going around in some chatty scenes. I feel that Dream Works, kinda made this movie cater towards age gap of teenagers on wards instead a direction which is not swaying to Disney’s cartoons.. well its PG rating anyway.

Dream Works musical score will always impress me with epic battle sound to the beautiful enchanted scenic sound with the flight of Hiccups and Toothless. Oh yea there will be another sequel in 2016, and all in all it’s a very darn good Dream Work animation yet it doesn’t quite have the same run for its money as its predecessor. Overall 7.5/10

  • Super Mario in my Happy Meal

Mamma mia! it’s him, Mario! This line up of happy meal toy has been a product release of MacDonald Japan last year. This kinda came out right under my nose… But this is super great news for us Malaysian !!!  Super Mario in my Happy Meal

A group of neighboring colleague bought a load full of happy meals which kept me curious on what was the toy included, and low behold the Super Mario toys! I was kinda surprised that this batch manage to came onto our shores,  which was sold like last year November.

These koopa-tastic Super Mario toys are being offered as part of a Happy Meal at all McDonald’s Malaysia locations. The toys include Peach, Yoshi, and Mario in various power-up forms such as Fire Mario and Penguin Mario. Notably excluded is Luigi. Surprise, surprise.
