  • Blended

Blended is about a couple after a disastrous blind date, single parents Lauren and Jim agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week .

Blended is a comedy movie between stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymoore. After getting a bad taste from Seth McFarlane’s Movie, I had to go to get some good laugh.

At least the show was pretty decent with silly laughs which are bearable. Even though Adam Sandler’s acting remain lazy, sloppy through out his recent films, Drew Barrymoore was able to save this movie from going terribad. Also not to forget the cameo done by Terry Crews which never seems to fail in giving me a few giggles here and there, during his intermission through out the movie.

Story line was pretty direct and straightforward where two single parents met up coincidentally at their Africa trip which made them get a closer bonding which eventually lead to a happy ending. However its not about the results but the journey of them getting together with all of the silly comedic scene and what not. As you all can know that there is subtle advertising in this movie like in his previous movies production.

Well at least towards the end of the movie , it tries to add some moral values about putting higher priority on your children.

Not to be getting a wrong idea, this movie is quite good to watch just for laughs. Overall 7/10 if you would like some comedic movie for this month, probably this might be one of the movie to watch on the big screens. But its an easy miss anyway..

  • A million ways to die in the west

Seth MacFarlane directs, produces, co-writes and plays the role of the cowardly sheep farmer Albert in A Million Ways to Die in the West. After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love.

Okay the movie left a bad after taste when walking out of the cinema . Well at least a final cameo of django with “everyone dies in the fair”

Story kicks off a sheep herder that had a mentality of our modern society. Well since is Seth mcfarlane’s movie like from his previous movie ted, this movie has no future introduction of nitty gritty dirty dirty jokes. At least for the first 30 minutes or so, where it suddenly toned down drastically to follow up with the story plot.

Props, amazing scenery and great Costume were perfectly done in this movie with vintage type music score which set a nice setting towards it. All clearly executed.

However it fails in the story department . Even with good casting didn’t manage to save the movie. Jokes are pretty bland, and straight up vulgar. Many scene, we pretty much censored off due to Malaysia censored board …

Overall its a good dumb laugh and quite able to say one of Seth ‘s worst flim which should be straight push on home videos instead.

The only liking of the shows was cameos from back to the future 3 and django … I kinda pitty the new generation that watched that particular scene on bttf3 since they got no idea what was the inside joke it was ….

A slapstick dirty joke movie which tries to be funny 4.5/10

  • How to train your dragon 2: Review

How to train your dragon 2: Review – Dream Works Animation returns to the world of dragons and Vikings in this sequel to their successful 2010 outing How to Train Your Dragon. The original film followed the exploits of a Viking chief’s son, who must capture a dragon in order to mark his passage into manhood and prove his worthiness to the tribe.

Firstly would like to thank Nuffnang for providing me a few days earlier screening for this long awaited sequel of How to train your dragon 4 years ago. Manage to get toothless mask and not too shabby cupcakes!

Over hyped, and much anticipation to my liking on the first predecessor , Dream Works did not disappoint in any aspect of the story line, CGI, music score and humorous fun times. The story takes place 5 years later where both viking and dragons leave in peace and harmony… well until Hiccups stumbled across some Dragon trappers which a while master plan of capturing dragons and build an army out of them to rule over humanity.

Returning cast from the first movie was never missed, stars the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig with the addition of Kit Harington, Cate Blanchett and Djimon Hounsou.

Well sadly for my humble opinion, the progress of the story line died down quite subtlety after a happy bonding family time that went totally wrong. This was quite the first time Dream Works manage to do something unspeakable like in the first movie where Hiccups lost his leg. However the irony of a full total recovery within a few mins didn’t not made a full impact of the shocking moment. I wished the director could add a more touching feeling towards the sadden incident. Actually two scene which supposed to made an total shocker for the viewers didn’t quite convey to me which actual sad emotional connection.

Aside from the two major flaw of the movie, overall it was a pretty enjoyable ride where you feel immerse on riding a dragon. Touching times where son meets mom; mom meets dad, and also not to forget the humorous part where Ruffnut helplessly falls for a hunk due to her teenage female hormones.

With a good propaganda motives on bestowing peace to mankind and not making a tool out of peaceful things, I must say its a pretty well put moral story values. However trying to fit myself in kids age roughly around ages of  7-12 I’m sure they might get lost in the plot lines and dramas going around in some chatty scenes. I feel that Dream Works, kinda made this movie cater towards age gap of teenagers on wards instead a direction which is not swaying to Disney’s cartoons.. well its PG rating anyway.

Dream Works musical score will always impress me with epic battle sound to the beautiful enchanted scenic sound with the flight of Hiccups and Toothless. Oh yea there will be another sequel in 2016, and all in all it’s a very darn good Dream Work animation yet it doesn’t quite have the same run for its money as its predecessor. Overall 7.5/10

  • Maleficent

Maleficent explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty” and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone.

Manage to catch it after my jogging session today with my new toy (will review it later) . So here we are Maleficent, a fairytale story retold. I was in for a surprise on how well did Angelina Jolie portrayed Maleficent.

Story narrates by some lady which is quite important at the end for viewers to clearly understand why it is being retold. Firstly yes its Disney’s Sleeping beauty movie  retold. Secondly, they can do what the hell they want with their fairytale franchise. I’m sure some viewers might “boo” and “hoo” on this new spin off for the fairytale of sleeping beauty.

Not many children today even know sleeping beauty, even those that know the story was from the 60″ and we kinda outgrew they childhood Disney stories which I found it very suitable for an older age group of viewers to accept this retold story.

I did watch the classic Sleeping beauty and actually kinda like how Disney is directing this particular retelling of it’s classic. It pretty much shows the softer side of maleficent well not quite soft but its like a crab metaphor, hard on the outside soft and mushy in the inside. Disney brilliantly portrayed the greed of mankind and their down spiral fall.

Sadly enough the Frozen trend did caught into this storyline as well, so without any spoilers… just go and watch it and be prepare for the unthinkable (girl power!).

Maleficent really makes you drawn into her personality like just being wicked enough by just giving a straight face on the camera but yet so enchanting and posh. You will actually felt more sympathy leaning towards maleficent throughout the show. Angelina Jolie is simply just too amazing to be looked at.. gosh 😀 that devilish look…. oh boy, her smirks and facial expression is just guilty-pleasure man..

The amazing fantasy scenic view of flora and fauna really captivated me where put me into a feeling of wanting to be in that land. Its like James Cameron’s Avatar all over again…No musical singing, probably its live action, it would not be pretty appropriate due to its dark settings on most of the movie pacing.

Build up of the plots is pretty good with the finale of an action sequence of fire breathing dragon and a duel between maleficent with the king. I can say it was an a proper development of the whole story put together even tho its actually a different point of view of how Maleficent reactions Overall a very nicely live adaptation done by Disney and a good movie to be watched with good moral values to be taught to children (7.5/10)

  • Edge of Tomorrow

The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

Just done getting the vibe from the movie, I must say a very well made movie except for the near ending where lazy script writing was at play.  Not to forget the similarity of the upcoming Call of Duty : Advance Warfare with all of that EXO-SUITS. Bloody hell Tom Cruise still looks young and respect to him to do all his stunts… kudos..

The story kicks off with Tom Cruise acting as Major Cage, a kinda PR for the military to seek fresh blood to join. However with turn of events, he was forced to be enrolled into the “Operation Drop fall” which is so called the final battle against the aliens however it was actually a suicide mission.  Best part was, Cage wasn’t even battle train and throughout the battle he was trying to disengage safety lock of his weapon…  haha that was hilarious ! Turn of events made Mr. Cruise able to time-loop the day prior to the final battle. Talk about respawning in a game seesh…

In the 30 mins into the movie, Major Cage met Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt)  and it wasn’t a smooth met up. I’ve chuckle when Rita used Cruise’s extra battery when he saved her. During the course of his time-loop , a lot of fun scene of him getting trial and errors. The story really build up to both of the actors pretty well.

After an hour or so, I’ve pretty much feel so much attached to the main protagonist since he left with only one life after endless of respawning . But in the end I felt the script writer kinda much rushed the ending where it turned out to be a Happy ending. I would prefer to be likewise and more reasonable of both to be fallen heroes or pertaining the effects and made the old suspense of repeating the whole cycle over again.

Story has very strong character build up, and the pacing of the movie was pretty good, you get both drama & action here and there which a dash of dark humours at times.. Graphics was believable and sound effects as well as the aliens was good props.

Overall its a pretty decent sci-fi movie, I’ve yet to read through the manga version and might mis-judge this movie instead, however overall its pretty decent and worth your time to catch it! 8/10

  • Godzilla 2014

Godzilla is a 2014 American science fiction monster film featuring the Japanese film monster of the same name in a reboot of the Godzilla film franchise which was screened on 15 May 2014 in Malaysia.

Manage to catch it with my colleague yesterday, and with such hype on this promising reboot. We hope that Hollywood brings justice on remaking a proper Godzilla movie which was terribly tarnished from  1998 Godzilla movie which also nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay in the 19th Golden Raspberry Awards.

Starting off with a happy family of Joe Brody played by Bryan Cranston, with son Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor) tried to surprise his dad with a self-made Happy birthday signage. Little that they know that day would turn out to be their demise… Oh boy what a way to celebrate the dad’s birthday.

Like right in the 30 minutes mark, the director felt liked killing off a main character off the plot and oh boy it was quite a shocking experience for me to see that person die. I wanted to see that character through out the storyline but alas…. one can only dream..

Special effects is close like Pacific Rim with quality disaster effects through out the destruction scene was flawless peppering it up with the sound effects and music score to add realism.

Sadly the movie came short, with lack of story depth which I found it totally unnecessary for the plot line for the Godzilla movie, I meant HEY less human screen times and more Godzilla screen times lah! I thinks at most we could see Godzilla like 5 times in between shots for a total duration of like 15-20 minutes?!?!?!come on, its Godzilla movie man…. give that dude more screen time.

Further to add the list of rants was the obese version of Godzilla, probably being a couch potato far too long since 1954. And the most puzzling part of the movie was the MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) tendency to munch on every radioactive things but I always wonder and cringe when someone removes their radioactive mask / not wearing any while being at close proximity of the exposed area of radioactivity.

I also shake head they they tried to move they nuclear nukes via a chin hook over the city of San Francisco with a mere strap on.. geez where is the safety procedures its a nuke for crying out loud!

Story was pretty stale with weird character development, where they tried hard to add family value into it as well of humanity brief mistake on trying to clean up their mess on deactivating an analogue nuke. Oh well at least we get a glimpse on Scarlet witch and Quicksilver for the next avengers…

Overall move is 6.5/10 , it was good , just not good enough due to the lack of screen time given to the King of Monster but I liked how they fan serviced some small parts of the movie related back to the original 1954 Godzilla plus was cool, able to see Godzilla decking out with MUTO.
